China has a robust legal system, which of course differs from the Anglo-American one you hold up as a paragon of justice. China is not a colony, makes its own laws, as any sovereign country is entitled to do. The article was written in May 2020, by the way. It obviously doesn’t cover subsequent developments, such as the departure of Western-aligned HK citizens. If they prefer to live in the West, that’s fine. They won’t be missed. Conversely, many westerners moved and are still moving to HK and China.
